STAFF PICNICS HELD

MASTERS, LTD., AT URENUI. STRATFORD AND NEW PLYMOUTH. With the object of giving the members of its Stratford and New Plymouth staffs the-opportunity of knowing one another, Messrs Masters, Ltd., held a picnic at the Urenui Domain during the week-end. The firm provided four cars, a bus and a lorry to bring 45 men, women and children and luggage from Stratford, and a bus to take 45 persons from New Plymouth. Milk, sugar, tea and fruit were distributed free, and there were many scrambles for the children. The outing was adjudged a great success and the hope expressed that it would be repeated, next year. Competitions were held between the Stratford and New Plymouth staffs. Stratford won the 100 yards scratch race, and the ladies’ swimming, while New Plymouth won the tug-of-war and the men’s swimming. In a tug-of-war, Masters, Ltd., defeated the Post and Telegraph Department, which was also holding a picnic at Urenui, ‘but the department won a cricket match and a relay race. At the conclusion of the picnic, Air. H. Gardner, on behalf of the staff, expressed appreciation of the generous manner in which Messrs Alasters, Ltd., had entertained them. He voiced the desire of all present that the picnic would be the forerunner of many others. Air. Robert Masters thanked Air. Gardner, and said that, if members of the staff had received as much pleasure out of the outing as the firm had in extending the hospitality, then the feelings were mutual. It was the intention, said Air. Alasters, to make the picnic an annual one, and the mistakes of that day, if any, would be the lessons of the future. He was pleased at the social spirit displayed between the Stratford and New Plymouth staffs. It would have the effect of bringing them closer together. It was his oue desire that every member of the staff who was present that day would be present next year, and perhaps he might be permitted to express-the wish that in numbers they would be augmented. POST AND TELEGRAPHS. PICNIC AT URENUI. About 100 members of the staff of the Chief Post Office, New Plymouth, were taken in two buses to the Urenui sportsground on Sunday for their first annual picnic. So successful was it that it has been decided to hold another. Tea, sugar and milk were provided free by the committee, and ice creams, sweets and lollio scrambles for the children. The chairman of the domain committee saw to it that the picnickers’ wants were met and the tennis courts were available for the visitors throughout the day.
