AUSTRALIAN CRICKET

SHEFFIELD SHIELD CONTEST. By Telegraph— Press Assn.—Copyright.. Received Feb. 6, 10.50 p.m. A. and N.Z. Brisbane, Feb. 6. In reply to Victoria’s first innings score of 300 runs in the Sheffield Shield match, Queensland had made 384 for the loss of nine wickets when stump® were drawn for the day (O’Connor 54. Oxenham 65, Rowe 134). Heavy rain overnight made the outfield heavy and dead, but had not affected the wicket, which was covered. Shortly after play commenced a heavy shower caused a cessation and the wicket was covered. Several heavy showers in the afternoon caused further delay. The Queensland batsmen played carefully. O’Connor and Oxenham, by means of cautions play, slowly increased the score. Rowe, after a slow beginning, hit out and quickly increased the total until failing light caused the cessation of play for the day.
