AN EXCEPTIONAL JANUARY
RAINLESS AND ALMOST WINDLESS By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Jan. 31. Wellington’s weather during January was exceptional in several respects. There was an almost entire absence of rain, the total fall for the month being less than one-fifth of an inch, making it the driest January for 41 years. Wellington belied its popular reputation as a windy city during the month, a remarkable feature of the meteorological records being the even atmos; pheric pressure du© to more or less constant anti-cyclonic conditions and the many days of calms or light airs. Strong northerly or westerly winds were conspicuous by their absence. The bright sunshine recorded during the month was far above the average. Nelson, Feb. 1.
No rain was recorded in January. The only similar occasions in the past 45 years are February, 1998, and March, 1911.
