FOUR CHILDREN BURNED
HUDDERSFIELD TRAGEDY SISTER'S RESCUE EFFORTS MOTHER FOUND DISTRACTED By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received Jan. 2, 8.45 p.m. A. and N.Z. London, Jan. 2. Four children, aged four to seventeen years, were killed in a fire near Huddersfield, when a cottage occupied by Haigh, a nightwatchman, caught fire, apparently through an accident to an oil stove. The mother awoke and noticed the smell of burning. She ran into a bedroom and awoke the eldest girl, Elsie. While the mother was calling the neighbours Elsie ran back into the cottage to save her brother and sisters. Later their four charred bodies were found huddled together. They had fallen from lhe lipper room when the floor collapsed.
Mrs. Haigh was found wandering in the snow in a distracted condition, clad only in night attire and badly burned. She was in a state of collapse.
