THE TARANAKI TOURNAMENT DETAILS OF DRAW ANNOUNCED. LEADING PLAYERS COMPETING. For the Taranaki Lawn Tennis Association’s annual tournament, winch commences on the Vivian Street courts, New Plymouth, at nine o’clock to-morrow morning, entries have been received from many of the leading Dominion players, and some excellent contests should be witnessed. A particularly gratifying feature otf the entries is the number of players from Central and South Taranaki who are competing this year. Though lacking the interest attaching to the visit of t-he Australian players last year, this year’s tournament is to be competed in by well-known players such a® E. L. Bartleet (Auckland), run-ner-up to OHivier in this year’s Dominion Championships, J. B. Parker (Wellington), M. L. Lampe (Wanganui), A. G. Wallace (Waverley), N. R. C. Wilson (Wellington), E. W. Griffiths (Auckland), W. j. Melody (Wellington), and C. B. Webster (New Plymouth). Paired in the men’s doubles are Griffiths and Bartleet, Lampe and Parker, Wallace and Dickie,. Webster and Richards, and Ellis and Wilson.
The ladies’ section is exceptionally strong, and includes Mesdames Melody (’Wellington) and Scott-Watson (Auckland), and Misses Myers (Wanganui), Tracy (Wellington), Ramsay (Auckland), Barltrop (Feiidhig), Calver (Wanganui), and Rundle and Brewster (New Plymouth). Prominent pairs in the ladies’ doubles are Miss Tracy and Mrs. Melody, Misses Myers and Calver, Misses Ramsay and Brewster, and Mrs. ScottWatson and Miss Sloman.
The combined doubles competitions include Wilson and Miss Tracy (the New Zealand champions), Melody and Mrs. Melody, Webster and Mrs. Scott-Wat-son, Lampe and Miss Myers, and Wallace and Miss Brewster.
Competitors in the boys’ singles are Drew ('last year’s champion at New Plymouth), 'McCarthy (who won at Hawera last week), Mitchell (Hawke’s Bay champion last year), A. Dickie and 8. White. The competitors in the girls’ singles include Misses Nutting and Cave.
