CROSS IN THE CEMETERY TO BE UNVEILED NEXT SUNDAYj GENERAL YOUNG TO OFFICIATE, 1 he unveiling of the cross of sacrifice in Te Henui cemetery, New Plymouth, given by Mr. and Mrs. C. 11. Burgcsa to commemorate the deeds and spirit of those who fell in the Great War, will be officially unveiled next Sunday afternoon by Major-General R. Youn„ C.B, C.M.G., D. 5.0., General Officer Commanding the New Zealand Military Forces. The service will take place in the cemetery at 3 o’clock in the afternoon, opening with the National Anthem by the Regimental Band. The Mayor of New Plymouth (Mr. F. E. Wilson) will then accept the cross from Mr. and Mrs, Burgess on behalf of the people of New Plymouth. Captain Hartnell, representing the ex-service men, will tender big official thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Bargees for their significant gift, and MajorGeneral Young will then unveil th© cross. The sounding of the “Last Post” ig to be followed by a prayer of dedication led by Archdeacon F. G. Evans, after which Mrs. Burgess, on behalf of the exservice men, will lay their wreath at the foot of the cross, the service concluding with the sounding of the “Reveille,'’ and a benediction pronounced by Chaplain J. D. Wilson. On account of the restricted are* in the vicinity of the cross, the only units to parade as units are the Regimental Band, one company of territorials, th® Maori War veterans, and ex-service men. Those who have relations buried in the soldiers’ plot are invited to assemble immediately behind the cross. Prior to the service, the returned soldiers will parade at the Soldiers’ Club, and march to the cemetery via the Drill Hall, where the company of territorials and the Regimental Band will join them. The parade should reach the cemetery at 3 p.m.
