LITHUANIAN REVOLT

According to Lithuanian messages th# authorities are ruthlessly suppressing the Communist movemen following the recent revolt. The entire country ia practically under martial law. Troops and armed volunteers are guarding ihe frontiers to prevent the flight of i ommunists. Many have already slipped in; o East Prussia and Poland. The only newspaper, the Gove nment organ Lietuva, is appearing. It vile s that Poland was behind the outbreak. The Polish Press resents this, rtecln that the establishment of the Sovi t regime in Lithuania is most undesirable to Poland's own interests. Received Sept. 14, 7.0 p.m. London, Sept. 11. '1 lie British United Press correspondent at Kovno reports that a court-martial sentenced to death eleven concerned in the Lithuanian revolt on September 11, six of whom were executed. Those arresfed total 1000. A Lithuanian revolt was organised by the Left Party with the objects of overthrowing the Government. The Government proclaimed a state of war, rushed troops from Kovno and Mei’tel, and instituted a Press censorship. The prompt action resulted in the revolt being suppressed.
