BLACKED MEMBER’S EYE .
UPROAR AT MT. ROSKILL BOARD. (By Wire —Special to News.) Auckland, Last Night. A persistent indulgence in personalities and the constant interruption of a speaker at a meeting of the Mount Roskill Road Board led to a member being knocked down by another member. Feeling had run high all the evening, and despite warnings from various members, the victim continued to hare bis say. The board was holding a special meeting to consider the question of concreting the roads of the district, and there was a full attendance presided over by Mr. E. F. Jones. Mr. J. R. Robertson was urging the need for the board to go ahead and seek the opinion of the ratepayers for a loan of £BB,OOO to complete the work. It is stated that Mr. Thomas Davis persisted in interrupting the speaker and indulging in personalities. Mr. Robertson asked Mr. Davies to forbear from making remarks and to allow him to get on with the important matter in hand. Similar requests by other members failed to have any effect, aud when Mi*. Davies mentioned that a certain member "was not a man, anyhow,” that member rose in his place and struck Mr. Davies a blow over the eye which knocked him' to the floor. There was an uproar which was only settled by the chairman adjourning the meeting. Before this was done, however, Mr. Davies signified his intention of resigning and was told that he would have to put it into writing.
