WESTERN PARK CLUB. THE ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Western Park Cricket Club was held last night. Mr. W. H. Quickfali presiding over a fair attendance. The annual report stated, inter alia: — The last season was one of the most successful, if not the most successful, in the history of the club. One senior team and one junior team were entered in the local competitions, and the senior team won the senior competition, and now holds the Robertson Cup. The senior team also defeated the Okaiawa team (winners of the southern division competition) after a very interesting game played at Hawera. The junior team also did well, but was severely handicapped in some of its matches through shortage of players. It is hoped that with a cricket coach available this season, more enthusiasm will be displayed by the junior players and that the club will have sufficient players to place a full junior team iu the field for every match. The financial position of tlie club has improved since last annual meeting. At the commencement of the season there were accounts owing by the club amounting to £7 6s 9d, while at the present time the amount owing is £1 10s. There are at present subscriptions outstanding which, should more than cover this amount. During the season the following players gained places iu the representative teams: —Haughton, Grayson, Dykes. Before the end of last season the club lost A. K. Edie and T. Kissling through their removing from the district, and since the season closed H. M. Dykes and S. Forrester also left New Plymouth and will therefore not be available for the coming season. Their loss will be keenly felt. The balance-sheet showed that the expenditure during the year had been Jt‘26 16s, the chief items being miscellaneous fees, £5 3s; rent of wicket, £5; material and repairs, £l2 18s; advertising, £3 12s 6d. A debit balance of 5s was shown, the receipts being subscriptions amounting to £26 Ils. The secretary explained that a considerable amount of the expenditure was due to the payment of accounts outstanding from the previous season. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr. Fred. Bayly; president, Mr. V. Elliott; vice-presidents, Messrs J. Brown, C. O. Berg; IF. H. Robertson, T. V. Mackay, J. Gibson and F. J. Hill; dub captain, Mr.' A, Hart; secretary and treasurer, Mr. A. C. Lawrey; honorary auditor, Mr. E. L. Humphries; custodians of material, Messrs A. Hart and H. The headmasters of the West End and Westown Schools are to be invited to nominate two boys from eadi school as honorary playing members of the junior team. It was decided to approach the Tikorangi Club (winners of the country competition) with a suggestion that the Western Park seniors play them at Tikorangi on Labour Day. Tlie question of unpaid subscriptions, was discussed, and it was decided to support the principle that unfinaneial members of any club should not be accepted by another club should they apply for a transfer, and also that they -Id not be allowed to play for their own club until their subscriptions are paid. The committee was instructed to make inquiries regarding the cost of obtaining caps. The delegates were instructed to use their best endeavours to have the Umpires’ Association resuscitated. A vote of thanks to the secretary and treasurer (Mr. C. Lawrey) was carried with acclamation, and the meeting closed with votes of thanks to the chairman and the Press.
