COERCIVE MEANS NOT TOLERATED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. . Wellington, Last Night. Detective William Robert Cooper resigned from the New Zealand Police Force on Monday, and was discharged, the cause being his assault cf a seaman, Henry Mornihgtoh Smith, who was awarded £l5 damages against Cooper in the Magistrate’s Court. Prior to that he was fined £2 for the offence at a private police inquiry. He there admitted being previously fined £3 for asseult. Commissioner Mcllvency said to-day that he would not tolerate such conduct as Cooper’s In the force under any circumstances.
