The death of Lady Mary Trefusis, sister of Lord Beauchamp, is reported by a London cable. Mr. Murdoch Fraser, of New Plymouth, who has been on a four, months’ tour of the United States and Canada, returned by the Niagara on Monday. He will remain in Auckland for a few days. At a meeting of the board of directe d of Newton King-Limited held recently, Mr. Truby King, of Stratford, was appointed to fill the vacancy on the directorate caused by the death of his father,' the late Mr. Newton King.Mr. W. C. Greea, chairman of the Egmont County Council, is at present indisposed. At yesterday’ meeting the council passed a vote of sympathy and expressed the hope that Mr. Green would soon Im restored to health. A distinguished visitor to Auckland is the Rt. Hon. Edward Shor-tt, KX)., British Secretary of State for Home Affaire -from 1919 to 1922, who arrived from Vancouver by the Niagara on M ’ y The main purpose of his visit to New Zealand is to inspect the Arapuni works on behalf of Sir W. G. Armstrong,' Whitworth and Company. He. is not actively engaged in politics at present, and although, not a member of the great engineering firm, he has wide business interests in the United Kingdom. , After a brief, .illness- there passed away, at his residence, on -Monday -CVcaing Mr. F. Swadling, in his sixty-fourth year. He was one of the original settlers on the Upper Manaia Road and, to„etha. with bis brother, Mr. Wm. Swadling, felled, grassed, fenced and erected hie homestead with other necessary buildings. He married Miss Lillian Cooper, of Hawera, and lived all his life in the district. He was one of the first suppliers to the Kaponga dairy factory, of which his brother, Wil liam, was chairman, and he continued dairying up to the time of his death He did not take an active part in public affairs, but was highly respected by his many neighbours, being ever ready to assist in all charitable works when ialLd on. He was a good neighbour, a loving husband and an indulgent father. He leaves a widow, four daughters and one son—Mesdames Shepherd, W. Cran (Kaponga), N. G. Luxton (Matapu), Miss Rita Swadling, and Mr. Finnimore (Ted) Swadling. His brother residing at Bcrkshi. ?, England,—where the late Mr. Swadling was born—and his two sisters, Mrs. J. H. Bentley (Kaponga) and Miss Swat ng (Hawera) also survive him.—Star.
