CRICKET

OLD BOYS’ CLUB. THE ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Old Boys' Cricket Club was held in New Plymouth yesterday. Mr. A. Bewley presided over a good attendance. The eighth annual report stated, inter alia, that two senior teams and one junior team were entered in the local competitions and all teams acquitted themselves very creditably. The senior A team, under Mr. Bewley, played ten two-day matches out of which six were won and one drawn, winning 17 points (the winning team scored 18 points). The senior B team, under Mr. I. W. Palmer, also did exceptionally well, considering that it was the previous year practically a junior team. This ■ team played ten two-day matches, win- - ning six of them and thereby gaining ■ 15 points. The junior team also didwell, but although they won all but i two or three matches, did not secure the junior competition. In the absence ot score books for all the. matches, averages could not be made out. The club had four members chosen for representative honours for the past season, namely, Bottrill, Lash, Eggletou and Brown. The finances -of the club are. in a good state, there being only one or two outstanding subscriptions. It would help the club if these could be paid up as. soon as possible. There is also a considerable amount of gear on hand. With the presence of the Hawke Cup in the district and the advent of the cricket coach, the future of the club looks very good for the coming season, and if all members will pull together we can look forward, to a very- successful and pleasant season’s cricket. The club thanks those enthusiasts who gave their support last season, and especially the president, Mr. A. A. Bennett, who has taken such a keen interest in all our doings. The balance-sheet showed, a credit of £2 Is ad. The chief items of expenditure. were material, £2O; repairs, £2 14s; miscellaneous fees, £8 Ills 6d. Receipts, comprising donations and subscriptions, totalled £3B I9s Bd. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the chairman said the club could undoubtedly congratulate itself on a very successful past season. He would like to congratulate Western Park on winning the competition. They had played in a most sporting spirit throughout the season. As far as the coming season was concerned, it appeared as though cricketers would experience the usual trouble of’ not being able to play on good grounds until the season was fairly well advanced, owing to football being played so late. As long as football and cricket were played on the same grounds he was afraid this trouble would always be experienced. It was gratifying to know that a professional coach was coming to the town. His services would mostly ba used in the coaching of school boys, but no doubt his services would be available during the afternoons for club players. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows President, Mr. A. A. Bennett; vice-presidents, Dr. E. F. Fookes and (Messrs R.. H. George, W. H. Moyes, G. W. Palmer and A. R. Standish; honorary treasurer, Mr. C. E. Dinniss; honorary secretary, Mr. 11. M. Mouteath; management committee, Messrs A. Bewley, I. W. Palmer, W. Groombridge, W. Moorhead, V. Pruden and C. Lash; club captain, Mr. A. Bewley; delegates to association, Messrs C. G. Bottrill, C. Lash and R. M. Monteath; representative on management committee of association, Mr. C. G. Bottrill. Subscriptions were fixed <ts follows; — Seniors, 30s (reducible to 25s for those under 21 on December 1); intermediate grade (if one is formed), £1; juniors, 15s. The delegates to the association’s annual meeting were instructed to support Mr. Bottrill’s notice of motion regarding the change in constitution of the management committee. It was decided to reoommond to the incoming committee that the junior grade be divided into two grades. A sub-committee of four was set up to go into the matter of allocating players to two senior teams. Votes of thanks were accorded the retiring secretary, the chairman and the Press.
