OVER-PRODUCTION OF OIL

THE INDUSTRY IS SICK. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. New York, Aug. 30. Mr. Hubert Work, secretary of the Interior, addressing the American Bar Association at Buffalo, declared that over-production of oil in the United States had reached the proportions of a national disaster, injuring millions who have wealth invested in oil properties, and depleting natural resources which never can be replaced. Mr. Work said that the oil industry was sick, therefore repentant, and asking for help. Constructive statesmanship plainly was needed, and the time was ripe for action. The leaders had wisely adopted a policy of publicity, as shown by recent conferences, and placing the facts before the public was always the best method of allaying suspicion and preventing misunderstanding. Mr. Work urged the enactment of Federal and State legislation as a corrective.
