VICTORY GAINED IN FINAL MATCH By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, Aug. 31. In its final match in Australia, the New Zealand hockey team, ’oi-posed of Fletcher, L. Spiers, Soper, Mahoney, Morris, Here, Worsfold, Seceombe, Bell, Watts and H. Spiers, defeated a Metropolitan eleven. Soon after the commencement Bell scored, giving the New Zealanders the lead. Fletcher made a clever save from a strong Metropolitan attack, kicking the ball from goal to midfield. The New Zealanders immediately made a strong attack, forcing the game and strongly besieging the local goal, but they hit too hard to score. At half-time the scores were: New Zealand 1, Metropolitan nil. In the second half the New Zealanders concerted their forces in a determined attack on the local goal and twice scored. After a strong rally Metropolitan carried an attack to the enemy’s stronghold and scored, making the total, New Zealand 3, Metropolitan 1. Immediately after another strong local attack resulted in a further score. The last few minutes of the game were strenuously contested, Metropolitan making desperate but unavailing efforts and the game ended: New Zealand 3, Metropolitan 2.
