TARANAKI JOCKEY CLUB
MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Taranaki Jockey Club was held last night. Present: Metssre. L- A. Nolan, W. P. Hookham, O. W. Sole. F. re, W. P. Nicoll, G. Fraser, A. R. Standish, W. C. Weston, L. B. Webster and B. 11. Chaney. Mr. Nolan w.°s re-elected chairman for the ensuing year. Mr. Moore was welcomed by the chairman as a new member of the committee.
The following officials were appointed for the coming season:—Judge, Mr. W. P. Russell; starter (Christmas meeting), Mr. A. Vincent, (February meeting), Mr. C. O’Connor; handicapper, Mr. R. Coyle; timekeeper, Mr. J. Bennett; clerk of the sc..les, Mr. A. Goldwater; honorary assistant. Mr. W. P. Nicoll; lion, surgeon, Dr. Fookes; bon. veterinary surgeon. Mr. R. B. Wood; clerk of the course, Mr. John Sexton. Committees were appointed as follow: Programme. Messrs. Nolan, Standish, Moore, McLeod, Chaney, Alexander and Fraser; course, Messrs. Nolan, Alexander, Nicoll, Hookham, Sole and Standish; district, Messrs. Nolan, Sole, Chaney. Fraser and McLeod; catering. Messrs. Nolan and Chaney. Mr. E. W. Hursthouse, of Wellington, wrote forwarding a copy of his grandfather’s diary giving an interesting and full account of the first meeting in New Plymouth in 1849. It was decided to write thanking Mr. Hurstbouse for the copy, and it was agreed to have the copy printed and framed and hung in the stewards’ room at the racecourse. An accident claim was considered and recommended for payment to the trustees. It was decided to retain the cup trophies for the Christmas and February meetings and a sub-committee was set- up to select the cups.
