HOOKEY MATCHES. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The men’s hockey match on Thursday afternoon between Waitara and Kaponga resulted in a victory for Kapong<a by the narrow margin of one goal to nil, the scorer being W. Pitcher. The visitors arrived two men short, and as the home team had a full team it was decided to concede the visitors one of their men and play with teams of ten men a-side. Messrs J. J. Davison and S. Death were the referees. The Ladies’ Hockey Club had to forfeit their match with Stratford Technical School on account of the indisposition of several members. After the men’s match, the combined ladies’ and men’s hockey clubs, entertained the visiting Waitara club members to a social and dance in the Parish Hall, when a very pleasant evening was spent, music for the dance being supplied by Mrs. Evans, while extras were played by Miss M. Evans, and a member of the visiting team. Mr. 0. Kefrely acted as M.C., and a very enjoyable supper was provided by several of the lady members of the hockey team. The visitors left shortly before midnight on their return journey, the local club being heartily thanked for their evening’s hospitality. CYCLE CLUB MEETING. *■ A meeting of the executive committee of the Kaponga Cycle Club was held in the 'Fire Station on Thursday evening. Correspondence was received from the North Canterbury Cycle Union, the New Zealand Athletic and Cycle Union, the New Plymouth Cyclo League, and the Wanganui Cycling Club, all being in regard to. matters of interest to the club. Permission having been obtained from the New Zealand Athletic and Cycle Union to hold a 40 or 50 mile North Island Championship, it was decided to hold this the Thursday after the round the mountain road race in October nexit, when it was hoped to secure quite a number of riders while they are in Taranaki. A vote of thanks to the New Ply-: mouth Cycle League for their invitation to riders of this club to compete in their races was passed, and a return invitation was issued. Only two of the original holders of the buttons will be' competing, so that competition should be very keen, PERSONAL. The friends of Miss K. Belli will regret to hear that she has had to be removed to the Hawera Hospital, suffering from diphtheria, but she is reported to be making good progress towards recovery. For the relay race to-day (Saturday),, the teams are;— No. 1 Team.—B. Myhill, R. Phillips, A. Arba and E. Watson. No. 2 Team.—F. Litchwark, P. Keegan, G. Blackwell, E. Lines. No' 3 Team. —S. Blackwell, G, Payne, E. Area, H. Wilcox.
