WENDY’S DRESSMAKERS
My dear Children, —Here is a new and very attractive little dress for you to make. It is really quite easy, so long as you get someone to measure you correctly. The smart little coat-like jumper is made in a plain material, and the under-skirt, of patterned stuff to tone, is stitched to a white or cream bodice. Take the jumper first: Get someone to measure from your shoulder to just below your waist, and across from elbow to elbow, with arms stretched out. Now cut a pjeee of stuff the same width, and twice the length measured. Fold in half lengthways and widthways, and cut as shown in Dia. A; open out, and cut down the front in a slight slant, as indicated by the dotted lines. Sew, up the side seams, and bind all the other edges with contrasting cotton braid, taking care to get it Sat, and leaving about twelve inches extra each side of the neck to tie in a bow. Sew wee strips of braid in the front to look
like pockets, as shown in the sketch. To make the bodice, cut a piece of material a little longer than the width round yourself, and your depth from chest to waist; sew up the back seam, and then stitch on shoulder straps of wide white tape. The skirt should be about two yards wide, and your length from waist to just above the knee. Sew up the side sea—s, hem the bottom neatly, and run a gathering thread round the top. Pull this up to fit the bottom of the bodice, tack the two together, regulating the folds evenly, and then stitch firmly. Neaten the raw I edges insicr with a piece of tape. Dia-' B shows you what the skirt and bodice should look like under the jumper. Wendy's Dressmaker.
