COUNTIES AND FARMERS PROTEST CABINET TO CONSIDER PLANS. By Telegraph —Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Replying to a joint deputation from the Counties’ Association and Farmers’ Union, requesting a more equitable system of hospital levies on counties and boroughs, the Minister of Health (Mr. J. A. Young) pointed out that a levy on the basis of capital value had been the law since 1855, and the subsidy rate for the different counties had fluctuated since 1923. The House of Representatives, the Hospital Boards’ Association, the Commissioner of Taxes and others had all declared against any deviation from the principle of the present rating system. He would lay the suggestions before Cabinet.
