IRISH HEIRESS MISSING
'FORTUNE LIES IN NEW YORK AUCKLAND WOMAN HOLDS HOPES. (By Wire —Special to News.) Auckland, Last Night. The sum of .£30,090 is in safe custody in New York waiting to be claimed by the heirs of Mary Bridget Madden, who are thought to be in New Zealand. Mr. John J. Dwyer, a prominent New York lawyer, has been vainly searching throughout the world for many years for this Mary Bridget Madden, who was born in County Calway, Ireland. Inquiries for the whereabouts of the daughter of William Madden show that she came to New Zealand about 1887 and settled, as far as is known, in Canterbury. She is said to have a number of relatives, probably cousins, in some part of New Zealand. “We would like to get in communicat tion with any member of this family,” says Mr. Dwyer, in a letter received in New Zealand, “or with any who knew Mary Bridget Madden. In this way we hope to trace the heirs to an estate worth more than £30,000.” The publication of this information has raised high hopes in the mind of at least one Auckland resident, Mrs. Mary Heinitz, of West Street, Newton. Mrs. Heinitz, who is a widow, aged 65, and has no family, has in her possession photographs taken many years ego of her grandfather and grandmother, Mary and William Madden. She states that her grandmother was born in County Galway and is probably the Mary Madden sought by the New York legal firm, or at least a near relative. Although Mrs. Madden's family included five sons and two daughters, Mrs. Heinitz does not believe there are many living descendants. She does not know of any other descendants in New Zealand at the present time. She intends to communicate with, the New York legal firm at once.
