INGLEWOOD NEWS.
SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Inglewood, June 22. The president, Mr. J. Roberts, presided at the usual monthly meeting of the Inglewood school committee held on Monday evening. Present: Messrs I. P. Grant, M. Sutherland, J. Mulholland, .1. Fea ver, W. Armstrong, E. Braybrooke, J. Parfitt, and the heamaster, Mr. A. Henderson. An apology was received from Mr. R. Sutton. The headmaster stated that the roll comprised 159 boys and 118 girls, making a total of 277. The average attendance for the quarter was 255. The attendance had lately been rather low owing to an epidemic of mumps.' Mr. Hickson, assistant, was at present absent owing- to illness, and his place was being temporarily filled by Miss G. Leech. It was stated that Miss Renz, infant mistress, would be leaving at the end of the month to take up another position. On May 27, the inspectors, Messrs Ballantyne and Griffin, paid a surprise visit to tiie school with the result that they stated that the school was capably managed and that good progress was beingmade. It was resolved that a letter be sent to Miss Renz, expressing appreciation of her good work during the time she was mistress at the school. Tiie annual meeting of tiie ladies of the Inglewood Golf Club was. held last week. There was a fair attendance. Mrs. C. O’Carrol was elected president, Miss D. Brown re-elected honorary secretary. and Mesdames Smith, Pool and Winter the committee. Owing to the course not being yet suitable for match play, it was decided to postpone, the arrangement of competitions to a later date, the committee to decide when to commence. It was reported that now the pavilion had been moved from the old site to the new course, many improvements had been made. During the week-end, some energetic members formed a working bee, with tiie result tiie club '.rouse is receiving a new coat of paint. When this is completed and tiie electric fittings finished, the chib house will be as comfortable and cosy as ever it was and quite at home in its new surroundings. Tiie Plnnket baby carnival, in aid of rhe Plunket funds, is now nearing the end. The results so far have been very good. The voting will close to-day (Wednesday), but the final results will not be announced till Saturday afternoon. PERSONAL. Mr. W. Morton is paying a visit to the district, and looking- up many old friends. Mr. Edwin Nops, of Auckland, is paying a business visit to this town and will be returning nortli in a few da vs.
