An ugly outbreak was narrowly averted in the city, owing to the resentment of the Moslems. Elaborate precautions had been taken at the Bakrid festival, where a determined effort to sacrifice cows was made. The mosque is situated in the heart of the Hindu locality. Armoured ears and large numbers of police rushed to the scene and after some hours the mobs were dispersed.' There were only minor casualties.
