STRATFORD FOOTBALL CLUB. A committee meeting of the Stratford Football Club was held last night in the gymnasium when Mr. R. Masters presided. Those present were: Messrs. F. Bowler, H. M. Good, A. R. Masters, J. Aitken, W. Thurston, J. C. Robins, C. Lamplough, R. Wood and N. Smith. It was decided that the erection of goal posts and the carrying out of other ground work at the Showgrounds be left to the grounds committee. It was resolved to acceed to the Midhirst Club’s request to recommend to the union the reinstatement of R. Gasson, from senior to first junior. It was also decided that an attempt should be made to arrange a “scratch” game between Stratford seniors and juniors at Victoria Park to-morrow. On the motion of Mr. Wood appreciation was expressed to the first juniors for their meritorious performance at Patea on F riday. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr. J. Radich for his donation of a gold medal for the best player in the senior team, the player to be chosen by the selectors. CARDS COMPETITION. On Monday night the Card Club were defeated by Te Popo by the -narrow margin of one game. The following are the details, Te Popo players being mentioned first: Slater and Nichol 8 v. Green and Russ ,6 Knox and Wilkin 6 v. Collingwood and Croot 7; Gibbs and Bagent 5 v. Coe and Jackson 9, Cook and Bond 6 v. Young and Sharrock 7, Lindsay and Barleyman 5 v. White and Brooking 7, Viscombe and M. Knox-10 v. Nelson and Casey 3. Totals, 40—39. The following will play for Triumph against Druids to-night: P. Healy, C. Gatton, W. Sharrock, W. J. Sharrock, J. Sharrock, E. Claridge, A. Elgar, T. Kelly, J. Bethune, G. Knight, R. Crossan, and P. Aitken. PERSONAL ITEMS. Mr. N. H. Moss left on a business visit to Wellington yesterday mornin o . Miss H. Abraham left yesterday morning on a visit to Palmerston North. Miss F. Kayll left for Wellington on yesterday morning’s mail train. She has been staying with her parents, the Rev. and Mrs. J. L. A. Kayll. Miss R. Thomson returned to Nelson yesterday morning after a visit to Stratford. PLUNKET SOCIETY. There are at present 542 cases on the books of the Stratford Plunket Society twelve new cases being added during the past month. Plunket Nurse Grant paid 69 visits to homes during the past month, and there were 381 visits to the nurse’s rooms, made up as follows: Babies 155, adults 181, children 45. THE KIl’G’S THEATRE. MARY PICKFORD IN “SPARROWS.” Last night saw a large crowd at the King’s Theatre to witness the screening of Mary Pickford’s latest picture for United Artists, “Sparrows.” The picture is entertaining and appealing with its pathos, and the irresistible undeiv .ent of wistful humour that is so much a part of Mary makes “Sparrows” her finest picture to date. One and all cannot afford to miss this very fine production and, as the box plan is rapidly filling, intending patrons should make sure of a seat by reserving.
