GLAND GRAFTING PLAN

THE THEORY OF VORONOFF PRESERVATION OF POTENCY. EXPERIMENTS IN OTAGO. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. In Continental countries considerable interest has been taken in the Voronoff system of grafting glands in animals, the French Government in particular paying special attention to sheep. The question of increasing the growth ol wool has come in for consideration, but more recently testicular grafting of stud stock has come under review, and the French Government has been responsible for some 3600 cases of this nature. Recently Dr. Voronoff got into touch with the New Zealand Farmers’ Union and Mr. S. P. Cameron, secretary of the Otago Provincial Union, discussed the matter with Dr. H. P. Pickerill, Dean of the Dental Faculty at Otago University, who has been recognised since the war period as one of the pioneers in the grafting of human tissues. Dr. Pickerill has expressed himself as agreeably surprised at the possibilities of the process. He has been particularly struck with the results of Dr. Voronoff’s work on testicular grafting of animals, and he thinks there is a distinct and valuable field in preserving the potency of valuable stud animals long beyond the usual age, or of bringing back a lost potency in an aged animal. As the result of Mr. Cameron’s interest in the matter, some experiments are to be carried out in testicular grafting, and stud breeders in Otago are placing stud rams at Dr. Pickerill’s disposal as subjects for the experiment, which will lie conducted on Thursday and Friday of this week. Dr. Gill, of the Veterinary Division of the Department of Agriculture, is coming from Wellington tv assist Dr. Pickerill with his experiments.
