HUGE WINNINGS

FORTUNES MADE IN RAIL SHARES. New York, March 26. Professional traders whose names are withheld made fortunes estimated at £5,000,000 -yesterday in consequence of violent fluctuations in railway stocks, due to a bear raid following the break in Wheeling and Lake Erie Railway shares, which extended to numerous lowpriced rails, especially St. Paul, Wabash, Chicago and Great Western, and a number of others. Hundreds of customers were caught short and sold out by brokerage houses, who refuse information of the extent of individual losses. The sudden attack on Rails, which was made without -warning, is unparalleled on the Stock Exchange, and may cause Government investigation into the causes of it. The sharp recovery which began before the close of yesterday’s market continued when dealing opened to-day.
