ACT TO HELP INDIGENT FAMILIES (Special to News). ’ Auckland, Last Night. Applications for relief under the Family Allowances Act, which was passed at the last session by Parliament, are now being received by the Pension Department, and indications in Auckland are to the effect that the provisions of the Act are not widely known. The Aet provides for the payment of 2s in respect of each child over tb 4 age of two, and under the age of 15 years, in all cases where the income' of the family, does not exceed £4 a week. The majority of the applications in towns and cities are expected to come from casual workers, because comparatively few bread-winners are receiving a wage of less than the amount mentionel. The allowances are payable on the 25th of each month, and the first payments will fall due on Anzac Day. • . ■ a
