A prisoner, Herbert Stanley, made a sensational escape from the Darlinghurst Courthouse. He was brought from prison to receive sentence, and was waiting in the corridor below the dock, when he obtained permission from the constable to visit the lavatory. Upon his failing to return, it was discovered that he had made his way up into the adjoining empty Court, through a trapdoor in the dock, which had inadvertently been left open. Thence he reached the street and got dear away. This is Stanley’s fourth escape from custody. He has previously escaped twice by jumping from moving trains.
