MOVEMENTS OF ODDFELLOWS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Kaponga, April 7. A number of members of the Kaponga Oddfellows’ Lodge visited the Stratford Lodge on Monday evening last, to ba present at the social evening and presentation to Bro. C. D. Sole. Those who went had a very enjoyable evening. On Wednesday evening again a large attendance of some 31) members journeyed to Hawera to be present at the ball In aid of a distressed member. The committee in charge left no etone unturned to ensure everyone having a good time, and a very happy party arrived back home in the early hours. The usual monthly meeting of the Fire Brigade was held at the station on Tueeday evening, Superintendent A. Melville presiding over a full attendance of members. The main business of the evening was correspondence front the secretary of the United Fire Brigades’ Newmarket, in reference to a new rule passed at conference in Gisiborne last February, and various other matters relating to remits dealt with by the conference. A letter was also received from the secretary of the Whangarei Fire Brigade, in reference to an appeal for the family of a distressed member there, and asking for assistance. It was decided to accede to the request, as the superintendent pointed out that each member, according to the rules, was in honour bound to contribute sixpence per member to such appeals. The passing of accounts, fixing time of next practice, and the calling of the roll then brought the meeting to a close. The seventh round of the- euchres and dances, being held under the auspices of the Ladies’ Croquet Club, took place in the Parish Hall on Wednesday evening. Those present had some keen and enjoyable games, which rifsulted in Mrs. H. J. Briggs winning the ladies’ prize comfortably from all others, while Mr. C. H. Brewer won the men’s by the narrow margin of half a game. Rev. G. S. Cook, and Mrs. Cook, the parents of Mr. G. P. Cook and Mr. R. G. Cook and, until lately, in charge of the Methodist Circuit of Onehunga, are on a short visit here, before proceeding to the charge of the Stratford Circuit, to which the Bev. Cook has been appointed.
