Rotarian Percy Higginbottom, of WdA ganui, attended the New Plymouth Rotary Club’s luncheon yesterday. Miss Irene Hansen, B.Sc., of Akron, Ohio, has arrived in New Plymouth to take charge cf the special arts and crafts class under the Taranaki Education Board. Mr. Mark James, New Plymouth, has received notification that he has been successful in passing the final examination entitling him to practise as a quualified surveyor. In recognition of her work iu the Whiteley .Sunday school, Miss L. Ward, the leader of the junior girls’ Bible class, was presented by the staff with a travelling rug prior to her departure for a holiday in Canada and England. Mr. W. Bicheno, headmaster of the Auroa school, was on Friday afternoon tended an afternoon tea by the Eltham public school, at which Mr. Bicheno was a teacher for seven years. Mr. E. Bary, headmaster, on behalf of the members of the teaching staff, presented Mr. Bicheno with a fountain pen and pencil. Mr. Bicheno sincerely thanked the members for their gift and expressions of goodwill.—Argus. Friends from Wanganui to Taranaki will learn with sincere regret of the death, at the ripe old age of 86 years, of Mr. A. D. Cunnabell. Born in St. John, Brunswick, Canada, in 1841, ho came to New Zealand in 1862, landing in Dunedin first. After about two years he went to Wanganui, and later took up a farm near Waitotara, which he worked for a couple of years. He moved successively to Harleyville and Otakeho, continuing fan ing operations until some years ago, when he retired to live in Hawera. He was a Maori War veteran, having served several years with Hon. J. Bryce's Kai Iwi Cavalry, with which he saw considerable service (says the Star).
