ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY
MEETING OF COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the council of the Taranaki Acclimatisation Society was held last night. Present: Messrs. G. G. Grover (chairman), B. Tippins, W. James, T. V. Simons, A. T. Wilson. Apologies were received from Messrs. E. Douch and W. R. Johns and Dr. Adamson. The Hawera Society wrote that it had recommended that the open season for opossums should be from June 1 to August 31. An offer of pheasants, practically full grown, was made by the Wanganui Society. Mr. John Murrell, Auckland, offered pheasants for sale. He had 300 and his price was 15s for cocks and 14s for hens. If the cocks were held till August 1 the price would be 17s Gd. The birds would be delivered f.o.b. or f.0.r., Auckland. The Department of Internal Affairs wrote offering to supply brown trout ova and fry at a cost of 6s per 1000 up to 100,000 for ova and 5s per 1000 for orders over 100,009. Fry would cost 10s per 1000. The ova or fry would be sent to the National Park railway station at the cost of the purchaser, but the department would not accept responsibility after the orders had left the hatchery. The secretary reported he had forwarded Mr. Critchley Parker, of London, a copy of the last annual report and other information requested. The information and photographs were desired for a publication. It was decided to hold the annual meeting on April 21. The secretary reported a bank balance of £249 3s Bd.
