ANNIVERSARY REGATTA
YACHTING AT AUCKLAND. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Jan. 29. The Anniversary Regatta, the chief event of Anniversary Day, was held under favourable conditions in the morning, but in the afternoon a severe squall developed which caused a number of boats to carry away sails and retire. The principal sailing race of the day was the first-class yacht race for the Heather Cup, and was won by a new boat, Ngatoa (owned by Winstone Bros.)), with Rawene (A. E. Gifford') second and Victory (H. George) third. The Ross Cup for the 14-foot Jellicoe class was won easily by Rona. The speed-boat, championship was won by Bonzo (F. B. Cadman) by over a lap of the course, from Fleeting Junior (C. J. Collings), which was the only other boat to finish. Miss Cheltenham (T. Cooper) sprang a leak and sank, but was later recovered. Kotuku (owned by R. Hatrick, Wanganui) developed engine trouble in the first lap and retired. The outboard motor championship was won by Miss Johnson (owned by A. Lee).
REGATTA AT HAMILTON. Hamilton, Jan. 30. The Anniversary Day regatta was held in fine weather. I. W. St. Clair had a very decisive victory in the senior sculls, all from scratch over a mile and a half course, winning by ten lengths from the Tauranga novice, W. Turner, who beat the ehampion, W. Stevenson, by two lengths and a half. The senior fours proved an easy victory for the Waitemata erew, who beat Hamilton by two lengths and a half. The senior doubles was won by Hamilton, who beat Waitemata, the only other starters, by two lengths. The senior pair-oar was won by Hamilton, twenty lengths separating their pair from Waitemata.
