BOY DROWNED IN RIVER
FATHER ATTEMPTS A RESCUE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Eketahuna, Jan. 31. Harold Elsmore, aged 17 years, residing with his parents at Newman, was drowned in the Makakahi River yesterday afternoon. He was one of a party which went bathing and, while wading, slipped off a ledge into a hole 12 feet deep. He could not swim, and his father rushed to his assistance, but eould not retain a hold on account of the boy’s struggles. The boy sank and his body was recovered half an hour later,, efforts at resuscitation being fruitless.
