AMERICAN TOURISTS

ARRIVAL AT AUCKLAND. TARANAKI TO BE VISITED. (By Wire. —Special to News.) Auckland, Last Night. A party of 25 American tourists arrived at Auckland this morning, under the direction of Mr. J. L. Wheeler, manager for the Pacific Tours Ltd. organisation, which has its headquarters at San Francisco. The tourists, who are all wealthy people, are representative of many of the American States. They will remain in the Dominion till the beginning of March, as arrangements have been made for their return on the Makura. To-morrow the party will leave for Waitomo, where the caves will be visited. Rotorua and Wairakei are the next places on their comprehensive itinerary. From Lake Taupo the tourists will proceed to the National Park, and will afterwards go down the Wanganui River. A little time will be spent in the picturesque Mount Egmont district, and Wanganui will next be visited. The tourists will spent the night at Palmerston North before leaving for Wellington in order to take the boat for Pieton, whence they will travel overland to Nelson. The beautiful scenery of the West Coast of the South Island will be viewed by the visitors, who will be taken as far south as the Franz Joseph glacier, about’4o miles south of Ross, and will afterwards go through Arthur’s Pass to Christchurch.
