POLICE COURT NEWS
SITTING AT NEW PLYMOUTH. DISTURBANCE AT THE PORT. A sitting of the Police Court was held in New Plymouth yesterday before Messrs. J. R. Hill and E. C. Hayton, J.P.’s. For drunkenness and obscene language A. Bailey, a member of the crew of the Port Napier, was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment. He was ordered to be placed on board the ship when she sails from Wellington on February 20. An old offender, John Joseph Larkin, was convicted and sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment for drunkenness. On a charge of a breach of his prohibition order he was remanded to appear before the magistrate on Wednesday. A disturbance between members of the crew of the steamer Forerie on Sunday led to the arrest for assault of a Chinaman named Long Lung. The case was remanded until Wednesday as Lung had suffered some injury and had been removed to the gaol for treatment and observation.
