The ' i/Ji V/ -- * V-J -

evening was organised by-Mrs. McCabe and the popularity of the young couple, who are esteemed residents of the district, was strikingly exemplified by the representative attendance, and the many useful gifts that were brought as some slight tangible evidence of that esteem. A jolly evening was spent, dancing interspersed with games, making the time pass merrily, excellent music being provided by Mesdames J. Shaw and Ingram, whilst Mr. G. Callaghan was M.C. A sumptuous supper was dispensed in the spacious supper-room by a ladies’ committee comprising. Mesdames McCabe, Webb and Moorby, assisted by a bevy of young ladies. After supper Mr. J. Garcia,' in a happy speech, extended the felicitations of all present to the young couple, who were then formally presence 1 with the numerous gifts, some of the; good wishes accompanying them .being distinctly humorous and evoking applause as they were read out. Mr. L. J. Hickiford.suitably acknowledged, after which dancing and games were, resumed and carried on till after midnight.

The Prince of Wales who, does; not mind doing unconventional things, went to Harrods big stores to see the Empire food display, and. when there, thought he would like to see the fashion department too. He caused a mild, sensation and a fluttering of mannequin's’ hearts when he appeared and insisted oti inspecting the stock and asking all kinds of questions about fringes and embroideries and colours, and showed a preference for a lovely rose-pink embroidered frock with one of the short trams that can be folded over the arm for dancing. He was chiefly .interested in the dance frocks, and expressed amusing views on the suitability and otherwise of various styles for “work” on a crowded floor. He is now dancing the flat Charleston at his favourite clubs and friends’ houses, and has had some experience of the discomforts--of too, many sequins and beads, which are, from a partner's point of view, often very difficult to clutch.
