NICARAGUAN REVOLT

BLOODY BATTLE FOUGHT SEVERAL HUNDREDS KILLED VICTORY FOR LIBERALS By Telegraph—Press Asra.—Copyright Managua, Jan. 3. The Woodiest battle of the present war occurred at Pearl Lagoon. It lasted three days and ended in a victory at the week-end for the Liberals, who overcame the Conservatives’ rearguard. They did not attempt to bury over 300 dead, and many of the 150 wounded crawled into swamps and died, Thousands of vultures hovered overhead to-day.

The Conservatives retired from El Bluff and were disarmed by the United States naval forces, President Diaz has issued a statement alleging that a third expedition has been sent by the Calles Government, of Mexico, against Nicaragua. It is provided with arms, ammunition, aeroplanes and a Mexican military personnel. It is. expected hourly on the Pacific Coast and preparations arc being made to repel it. ATTITUDE OF THE STATEN. WITHDRAWAL DEMANDED. Washington, Jan. 3. Senator Wheeler, Montana, introduced a resolution to-day asking for the immediate withdrawal of United States marines and warships from Nicaragua, where it is alleged that Rear-Admiral Latimer, declared a censorship in territory occupied by the Liberals which would tend to hinder antj, obstruct the Liberal forces in their attempt to establish a constitutional Government. He declared that the State Department recognised the Diaz regime, notwithstanding the illegality of its election, It must have been apparent that Diaz under such circumstances could not maintain a stable Government, particularly without the aid of American gunboats and American marines.
