Nominations for all events at the Foxton Racing Club’s annual meeting, which takes place on Friday and Saturday, January 21 and 22, close with the secretary, Mr. D. R. Ogilvy, Foxton, at 8 p.m. this evening. The programme published is a very attractive one, the Foxton Cup (open) being worth 350 sovs, and run over a mile .and a-quarter, while the big race on the second day, the President’s Handicap (open), carries with it 300 sovs, and extends to a mile and a distance. Open sprints and welters, hack hurdles and hack flat handicaps, and novice and maiden races complete the programme, and all are well endowed with stakes. Mr. J. E. Henrys is the handicapper, ana Messrs A. Vincent (starter) and J. Cameron (judge) will be in their usual■ positions.. Since last meeting, extensive improvements have been effected to course and appointments. An extension of the back stretch gives a straight run of over three furlongs from the new six furlongs starting post, while the starting peg at seven furlongs has been improved, and the straight lengthened by the judge’s box (now contained in the improved stewards’ stand) being removed nearer the top turn leaving the straight. Various minor improvements have ■brought the club’s appointments up-to-date, and the Foxton meeting is one of the most popular picnic gatherings on the coast.
