BRIESEMANN—REID.
A marriage of local interest was celebrated by Rev. J. McGregor in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Chur eh, Stratford, on Friday night, December 10. The contracting parties were Mr. Carl Briesemaan, youngest son of Mrs. and the late Mr. H. Briecemann, of Stratford, and Miss Jean Reid, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Reid, of Regan Street. The bride, who was given away by her father, was attended by Miss Clara Watkins as bridesmaid, and Mr, Waiter Watkins attended the bridegroom as beet man. After the ceremony the wedding breakfast was partaken of at Smith’s rooms.
The R< v. J. McGregor proposed the health of the couple, which was done full justice to. The bridegroom responded, and in turn proposed the health of the bridesmaid, which was responded to by the best man. Mr. A. W. Reid proposed the health of the parents of the bride, whom he had known in the Old Land, and the father of the bride proposed the health of the mother of the bridegroom, who responded for hie mother. The function ended happily by the flinging of Auld Lang Syne. Mr. and Mie. Briecemann left for the south on their honeymoon.
FAREWELL PARTY.
On Wednesday evening the members of the New Plymouth Bell Bird concert party met at Craigneuk, the residence of Mrs. John Craig, to bid farewell to Miss Ruby Cartwright, on the occasion of her approaching marriage. Mre. Craig, on behalf of the Bell Birds, made a presentation to Miss Cartwright, wiio suitably responded. During the evening items were given by members of the Bell Bird party, including Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Skelton. Others present were Mr. and Mre. W. Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. AV. L. Wagstaff, Mcedamce W. Cartwright, X. Jonee, G. H. Loveridge, J. A. Valentine. Miss King and Mr. L. Loveridge.
A social afternoon ten will be held in the Victoria League Club room on Monday next, at which Mrs. De Castro, Mrs. Murray and Miss Gwen Bayly will be the guests of honour. Mrs. De Castro has consented to explain the aims of the English Speaking Union.
ENGAGEMENTS.
The engagement is announced of Olga May, elder daughter of Mr. and Mre. E. A. Adlam, of Waipuku (a granddaughter of Mr, G. A. Adlam, of New Plymouth), to George Allen Tubby, third eon of Mr. and -Mrs. Tubby, of Cordelia Street, Stratford.
The engagement ie announced of Elsie, younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Uncles, Junction Road, Inglewood, to John E., elder son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Andrews, Grey Lynn, Auckland.
