Mr. Erucfet Beckbeesinger, who hqt been absent from Waitara for the past 21 months, having been in a warehouse in Chicago, where he went for experience, returned home yesterday morning.
It is officially announced that Lord Lovat succeeds Lord Clarendon as Parliamentary Under-Secretary for the Dominions and Chairman of the Overseas Settlement Board states a London cablegram.
A Wanganui message reports the’ death Of Mr. W. J, Mahoney, for many years a telegraphist and latterly district manager of the Australian Provincial Assurance. The deceased waa well known in swimming ami rowing circles.
A Dannevirke message reports the death of Mr. Charles A. Mears, town clerk since 1913, following an operation for appendicitis. He was immediate past district provincial grandmaster 1.0.0. F. and secretary' of the local Masonic Lodge. The . death of Mrs. Emily Corbett at Utuku at the residence of her daughter, Mrs, Hey.es, removes one of the pionccra of Taranaki. Mis. Corbett was well known in the Eltham ami Haw-era districts.very many years ago. She passed away on Tuesday at the age of 89 years, and the interment took place at Taiha-pe on Thursday. Mrs. D. Clement, of Eltham, is a grand-daughter of the deceased.
The services of Sir James Gunson aS president of the Auckland Provincial Patriotic and War Relief Association, of which he is chairman of the executive, were spoken of in highly appreciative terms the other day, when his resignation was tendered owing to his impending visit to England. Sir James, was prevailed upon to withdraw his resignation, and to accept 18 months’ (eave of absence, states a Press Association message.
The death of Mrs. G. R. A. Whiling occurred at Gisborne early yesterday morning. Mrs. Whiting has been in indifferent health for some time, and recently she aiid Mr. Whiting (District Inspector of Factories), went to Gisborne to’spend bis holiday leave, in the hope of benefiting her health, Mrs, Whiting remained behind for a longer stay, and word was received yesterday morning of her death. Mr, Whiting left immediately for Gisborne.
