MY CHRISTMAS DREAM.
BY GLORIA SWANSON. I must have consumed Christmas cake very heartily—l confess I always had a weakness for sweet things—anyhow, the dream that followed had somewhat the nature of a nightmare. I stood before the familiar nursery mirror when suddenly the glass seemed to fade away and a large double doorway took its place. This opened wide, and through the opening came dozens of little turbaned blacx pages bearing bandboxes, jewels, scent bottles on cushions paraphernalia o f and all the olhe: luxurious dressing'. One after another magnificent frocks were spread before my fascinated eyes, and I was invited in dumbshow’ motions to try them on; but with tantalising suddenness they faded away before I could touch them. Then I found myself surrounded by gay people, crowds and crowds of them. It seemed like a party of some kind. I had never in my brief childish life been at a party like this, and I was immensely thrilled by the importance of it. Then suddenly I found myself struggling in the waters of a lake, splashing and screaming. A strong arm shot- out and rescued me—and I awoke, to find I had fallen out of bed, and that nursa had come to retrieve her tumbled charge. . . I got little sympathy when I related my dream, but it haunted me for many years, especially the' memory of those lovely dresses, and I can’t help thinking it was a little prophetic; for it exactly foreshadowed the cinema life I lead to-day—parties, fine clothes, stunts, and all.
