KAPONGA NEWS

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The following members will represent Kaponga bowlers in their match against Avon at Kaponga on Thursday next. This is the first match in the second round of the banner competition:— Messrs. J. J. Davison, A. Lissaman, C. Tonkin, A. Hawkins, J. Stevens, W. G. Cran, A. E. Anderson, R. J. Payne, R. E. Williams, W. C. Hislop, H. Henderson and J. J. Charters. The Kaponga State school will hold its annual break-up ceremony and prizegiving this year on Thursday next in the Town Hall. The Kaponga Methodist Church annual Sunday School anniversary services were held on Sunday morning and evening. There was a large congregation in the morning of children and parents and friends, but the evening was not so well attended owing, no doubt, to the storm which commenced early in the afternoon. The children acquitted themselves very ably with the special hymns under the able conduetorship of Mr. N. C. Davies. The Rev. A. Blakemore preached special addresses suitable to the occasion, devoting himself entirely to the children at the morning service, and giving an address to the children, parents and friends at the evening service. PERSONAL. Mr. and Mrs. A. Powell, after an enjoyable three weeks’ holiday tour in the South Island, returned to Kaponga on Monday last. They visited Christchurch and Dunedin.
