FATAL MOTOR SMASH

Manslaughter charge follows By leiegrxpli.—Press Association. Taihape. Dec. 13. A fatal accident occurred at Taihape Bn Saturday night when a motor car failed to turn a corner coming off the railway bridge and crashed over toe bank. Robert Gordon Sutherland, aged 3-5, broke his neck, and a Maori named McKay was badly injured. The driver <J the car, John Mahoney, aged 21, was arrested an' charged with manslaughter. The inquest and manslaughter charge were opened this morning, and after formal evidence of identification had been given, was adjourned until Tuesday. December 21. Sutherland came from Dunedin, where it is understood he had been a prominent footballer. He also played lor Taranaki.
