The Hutt River in parts was like Wellington Harbour on a stormy day, and all road traffic was blocked. Wellington, Last Night. The Hutt River rose again to-day, and the approaches to the Main Park bridge were considerably damaged. The land also suffered at Routley’s Corner, where a number of outhouses were flooded, but beyond that no damage was The flood is described as the worst in the Hutt Valley for years, but the river protective work stood up well against the swirling waters. The road in the Taita Gorge was declared clear this afternoon, and vehicular traffic was resumed. Carterton, Dee. 13. Steady warm ram fell in the Wairarapa on Saturday night and Sunday. The rivers and creeks are all bank high. The Waiohine flowed across the road between Carterton and Greytown on Sunday evening to a depth of four feet and held up traffic for a couple of hours.
