Mr. D. Smith, of Wellington, is on a visit to New Plymouth. A London message reports the death of M. Pashiteh. Prime Minister of Jugoslavia. Dr. Boxer, of Hastings, former president of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, is spending a few days at the North Egmont mountain house. At a special meeting of the New Plymouth High Schools’ Board on Saturday morning, Miss Gwen Day, of New Plymouth, was appointed to the position of mistress of the preparatory department of the Girls’ High School. Sir James G. Wilson, who for over 20 years served as chairman of the Manawatu County Council, is to bo presented with an illuminated address by that body at a special meeting to bo held on Wednesday, December 22. The death is reported in a Melbourne cablegram of Mr. G. F. Schuler, editor of the Melbourne Age, who died suddenly from heart failure. Deceased, whose hobby was carpentering, wan found dead alongside the bench where ho had been working. Mr. Don. W. Sutton, eldest son of Mr. F. W. Sutton, of New Plymouth, has been appointed agricultural master at the Wanganui Collegiate School. Mr. Sutton is an old boy of the New Plymouth Boys’ High School, and has spent the last five years at Canterbury and Lincoln Colleges. Miss Vera Reader, M.Ss. (N.Z.) Ph.D., A.1.C., is at present visiting Taranaki. This young lady, a distinguished New Zealand student, is engaged in scientific research work at Oxford University, aud is enjoying a brief holiday in her homeland, returning to England early next month. Miss Reader is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. D. Svuio, of Eltham, for a few days.
