FARMERS’ PROBLEMS
LAND VALUES AND’LABOUR STABILISING NECESs'aRY. ADDRESS BY MR. W. J. POLSON. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wanganui, Last Night. The difficulties which beset the paths of farmers throughout the Dominion were outlined to-day by Mr. W. J. Polson, president of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, in a striking address to the Wanganui Rotary Club. The address was a preliminary to an important rally of North Island farmers, who will gather here on Thursday next to discuss pressing rural problems. Mr. Polson drew attention to the need for economy in public expenditure, a better land settlement policy, extension of our overseas markets to America and the Orient, and the need for stabilisation of land values and labour conditions. He suggested drastic penalties for breaches of labour awards, stating that the present price of our primary products did not allow farmers to make both ends meet.
