TORNADO IN AMERICA
MANY CASUALTIES FEARED FIFTY KNOWN TO BE DEAD SMALL TOWN WIPED OUT By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. New York, Nov. 26. A message from St. Louis states that nearly 50 arc known to be dead, many are injured, and heavy property damage is reported to-day as the result of the tornado which swept sections of Louisiana, Arkansas and Missouri last night. Hampered by darkness caused by crippled light plants, the rescuers were working throughout the night. Many communities are-affected. Arkansas accounted for over 30 dead and it is feared daylight and restored wire communications will reveal a heavier toll. -- Missouri communities reported that five are known to be killed. Big Piney, a small inland town, according to the meagre reports, was virtually wiped out. Four whites and three negroes were the toll of the freakish winds which swept a narrow pathway in Louisiana. V message from Marks, Mississippi, reports that ■ nine negroes were killed to-day by cyclonic winds which swept the adjacent tree plantations. Received Nov. 28, 5.5 p.m. New York, Nov. 27. Messages from Memphis advise that the tornado death roll had reached 80 last night. x.
