FIRES AT MARTON
SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES.
By Telegraph.—Preas Association.
Marton, Nov. 27
A fire at Marton Junction at 10 o’clock last night destroyed a dwelling occupied by J. W. Neale, a borough employee. Neale was absent at the time, but his wife and three children were asleep. A young girl awoke and found the house in flames. She roused her mother and the others, who made a hasty exit, saving nothing. Theirescape was very fortunate, as only the shelf of the house remains.
The -brigade smartly saved two houses adjoining. The contents of Neale’s house were insured in the Commercial Office for £125. The building, owned by the Borough Council, was insured in the State Office for £5OO.
While the brigade was at Neale’s, an outbreak was discovered in an efcpty shop in the main thoroughfare of Marton. When the brigade arrived at the latter place the flames had been subdued by the residents. The circumstances of the latter fire were very suspicious. The shop had been unused for some time. Only slight damage was done.
