BRITISH PREFERENCE
FRUIT EXPORTERS ACTIVE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Nelson, Nov. 2. The following cablegram is being sent to the Prime Minister in London and a copy to the London Times, signed by the members of Parliament representing the fruit districts of New Zealand (Messrs. Atmore, Hudson, Girling, Mason, Kyle, Horn, Campbell and Jordan): — “We, the Parliamentary representatives of the fruit exporting districts of New Zealand, wish to emphasise the vital necessity of obtaining British preference over American competition for fruit entering Britain, and respectfully suggest that you place this before the Imperial Conference and the Home Government as imperative for the continued existence of the Dominion fruit industry, which is almost entirely dependent upon the British market. We remind you that New Zealand purchases British goods to the value of £l6 per head annually, as compared with the American per capita purchase of 9s per annum.”
