WAIWAKAIHO SEASON ENDS. PRESENTATION OF PRIZES. The winter season for ladies’ golf at the Waiwakaiho links was closed yesterday with the annual presentation of prizes. The weather was bright and sunny-, and the conditions were ideal for the medal and four-ball best ball matches and for the putting, approaching and driving competitions. A large number of players and visitors were present. Before calling on Mr. P. Grey- to present the prizes, Mrs. Rex Brewster, club captain, said she desired to thank the committee, and especially the secretary (Miss Dell), for their work for the club. No one unacquainted with the secretarial duties knew how much time they- occupied, and frequently Miss Dell was obliged to give up a game in order to carry- them out. The ladies were indebted also to Mrs. Sanders, whose teas were famous throughout the Dominion. Mr. Grey said it was only right and proper that prizes should be given to those who deserved them, but there was more in the game than that. They played the game for the game’s sake and learnt the spirit'of sportsmanship. He had noticed some startling reductions in tlie handicaps of sgme of tne ladies, the greatest being that of Mrs. Milroy, who had reduced from 29*to 12. They were indebted to Mrs. Blackley for presenting a cup. He congratulated the ladies on winning the Taplin Cup from the Eltham Club and for their defence against challenges from Eltham and Hawera.
