Mr. E. T. Hollands, Wellington, hajj been selected by- the Timaru Boroughj Council as general manager of the eleo trical department. There were 27 a#< plications. , The salary is £7OO avinum. The death lias occurred at Christ* church of Mr. William Garrard, age'l 90 years. He was well known to old* time sportsmen. He came to New Zea« land 60 years ago, settling nt Nelsoa' until 1874, when he removed to Christs church, where he remained until th« time of his death. Hie sous are M>, W. G. Garrard, of Christchurch; Mrs Joseph Garrard, Lyttelton, manager of Kinsey and Co.; Mr. C. A. Garrardf chief inspector of schools, at Auckland, and Mr. H. F. Garrard, of Christchurch* Brigadier Walter Winton, of Dunedin, well known throughout New Zealand and Australia as the "Digger Padre” of Codford, is now in England, with Mrs, Winton' and their two children. Fol{ four years he served with the New Zea« landers, and he was the first ehaplaiu captain to be sent Home with the forces. He is now attached to International Headquarters, Queen Victoria Street, London, and his business will be to travel the various parts of the United Kingdom on the Salvation Army work for which General Booth selected him. Brigadier Winton has been created an M.B.E.
