A. & P. ASSOCIATION. MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. l.he monthly meeting of the executive committee of the Stratford A. and P. Association was held last night, when there were present: Messrs ,T. W. Boon (president), J. C. Robins, R. V. Kay, €. Mcl. Young, A. David, J. Parrish, J. W. Crowe. Mr. J. Pettigrew, Pihama,- has accepted the position' of judge in the Jersey section. Mr. A. Stewart has been appointed as marshal of parade, Mr. D. McMillan as chairman of boxes, and ALessrs Robins and Fleming as organisers of the weight-guessing competitions. It was reported tbat the industrial hall floor had been concreted and arrangements were being made for the erection of the new pig pens. After some discussion it was decided that the turnstiles system at the gates would be impracticable owing to the number of people who enter the grounds in cars. Permission was given the Friesian Association to hold demonstrations in the Friesian judging ring on people’s day. Mr. Robins reported that arrangements were well in hand for the bullock jumping competition. “THE BELLE OF NEW YORK.” To-night the large crowd which attendee! the third performance of •'•'The Belle of New York” gave the players another great ovation and the performance merited the applause it received. Last night the delighted audience called the producers, Messrs Owen Caitlston, and J. Davidson Baxter, the musical conductor, Mr. V. N. Lester and the pianiste, Miss B. Masters, to the stage and showed their appreciation by giving rounds of applause. ‘The Belle of New York” will be staged at Eltham on Friday night and in the Opera House, New Plymouth, on September 28 and 29. GENERAL ITEMS. This morning at the local court, before Mr. W. Mclnnes. J.P., Edward Leahey, charged with being drunk in a public place, namely, York Road, Midhirst, was convicted and discharged. Accused pleaded guilty. Sergeant Reid said that accused had a list of offences and had yet to serve a sentence at Wanganui. He had been thrashed in Midhirst last night, and had had to pay 14s taxi hire. The Whangamomona County Council, at its. meeting on Monday passed the following resolution on receipt of a letter from the Progress League in connection with the amount on the Public Works Estimates for the Stratford Main Trunk line: ‘'That this council endorse the resolution passed by the league in reference to the pushing forward of the work The council, however, is not prepared to say that the sum on the Estimates now is not sufficient for the present. The council would heartily co-op-erate with other bodies in a deputation

The work of ploughing and draining will be commenced early. Entries for the Stratford Horticultural Society's first show, which opens to-morrow in the Town Hall, have exceeded all expectations. Following on the success of the Eltham show a large number of growers have signified their intention of sending on their exhibits to Stratford. These will include Messrs R. Gibson (Manaia), New Zealand champion grower. Loftus Rae. the Rev. W. W. Avery and Mrs. Fever. Exhibits will also be staged by growers from the Hutt and Wellington, including Miss Burgess and Mr. G. H. Poole. At last night's meeting of the Stratford A. and P. Association executive a committee was appointed to arrange a plentiful supply of .hot Water for the public on the second day of the show. Yesterday afternoon a concert in aid of the primary school drum and fife band was given in the Methodist Hall. Admission was by silver coin and over £5 was collected. A very fine performance by the pupils was excellently rendered. It has been decided to instal electric light, a water service and other conveniences at the site of the motorists’ camp in King Edward Park. It is hoped to have t'he site in good order for the coming tourist season. A property in Broadway central, with a frontage of 55 feet, has been sold for £7260.
